I live in suburban Chicago. I have experienced trouble each year trying to get a quality lawn developed in my front yard. I have a good size Maple that is in the center of the yard. I understand Maples are tough on grass. I have a ground cover growing around the tree in a circle-going out about 10-12 feet from the trunk.
Outside of the ground cover my lawn is below my expectations. Will your Dense Shade product work in this kind of environment? I am also not sure your Dense Shade product is sold locally. I do not want to turn my entire yard over to ground cover. Your thoughts would be appreciated.

RE: Shade Grass Seed

Hi Jim - Yes Dense Shade is a great grass seed mixture for under trees. We are currently supplied in many Ace Hardware stores in the Chicago area. Please check our dealer locator for the nearest store to you. We would suggest you call the store ahead of time to be sure they are currently stocking Dense Shade. You should not have a problem. We would also suggest you apply Mag-I-Cal to the soil around the base of the tree to balance any pH issues and to create a strong foundation for the new grass. For more on Mag-I-Cal check out this link: http://www.jonathangreen.com/index.cfm/product/2/45/
