Product Overview
Our Veri-Green starter fertilizer is rich in phosphorus, a key component in the development of root formation. This product also contains humates that enhance the efficiency, availability, and exchange of plant nutrients to and from the soil.
For best results, this starter fertilizer should be applied just after seeding a new lawn or installing sod rolls. We recommend checking local ordinances to determine the appropriate application times and any region-specific restrictions.

When to Apply
Apply the same day you seed or lay sod in fall (between mid-August to mid-October), or in spring (between mid-March to mid-May). For grass seed to germinate, soil temperatures must be at least 55°F, and air temperatures should not exceed 85°F.

Use With Other Products
Starter fertilizers can be applied with any of our soil amendments. We don’t recommend applying two of our weed controls or fertilizers together, as you risk burning your lawn. You can, however, apply two of these products together if one has fertilizer and the other one doesn’t. The rule of thumb is: if two products have different functions, it is usually possible to apply them together.
Apply to Dry or Damp Lawn
Apply Veri-Green Starter Lawn Fertilizer for Seeding & Sodding to a dry lawn a day or two after mowing.
Safe for Children & Pets
After applying Veri-Green Starter Fertilizer for Seeding & Sodding, water your lawn to move the fertilizer to the roots. Once the grass has dried, people and pets are safe to re-enter the lawn.
Shelf Life
Place it in a cool dry place, off of the ground, out of direct sunlight, and keep it away from moisture. Keep bags (especially that have already been opened) containing unused product in a locked storage area inaccessible to children and pets. Do not store near feed or foodstuffs.
To prevent cross-contamination, do not store near open containers of fertilizer, seed or other pesticides. Under these conditions, fertilizer will last at least two years.
Precautions & Proper Handling
- Carefully read all instructions prior to application
- Wash hands thoroughly with soap and water after handling and before eating or drinking
- Do not apply near water, storm drains, or drainage ditches.
- Do not apply if heavy rain is expected.
- Apply starter fertilizer only to your lawn or garden and sweep any product that lands on the driveway, sidewalk or street back onto your lawn or garden.
- Be aware of local ordinance requirements concerning lawn fertilizer applications. “Black out” dates may limit or prohibit lawn fertilizer applications from late fall to early spring in certain areas.

Should I fertilize when seeding?
Yes, we recommend applying fertilizer prior to seeding to supply your lawn with the necessary nutrients it needs to support adequate grass growth. In order to promote strong root development for your new seedlings, you should choose a fertilizer high in phosphorus, such as Veri-Green for Seeding and Sodding. Remember to pay close attention to and follow the directions on the back of the specific fertilizer variety you’ve selected, as some fertilizers cannot be applied the same day as seeding.

How to Apply
Apply
- We recommend using a spreader to evenly distribute the product onto your lawn.
- Check to make sure the spreader opening at the bottom of the hopper is closed.
- Set the spreader according to the recommended setting on the packaging or use our Spreader Settings Tool above.
- Push the lever forward only when ready to spread.
- Apply starter fertilizer around the perimeter of the lawn to establish a turning area. Then run the spreader back and forth within the area outlined by your first perimeter application. Always allow an overlap to avoid gaps in coverage.
Post-Application
Sweep any excess granules off of hard surfaces and back onto the lawn.
Thoroughly irrigate the treated area after application for best results.
Once watered, wait a day to mow the lawn allowing the product time to activate.
