Real Love Your Soil Lawns
Product Overview
Love Your Soil® also helps to stimulate soil microbial life. The bacteria and fungi in the soil break down organic matter converting it to humus. Healthy biologically active soil contains as much as 5% organic humus while lawns that struggle might contain less than 1%.
Feeding a lawn synthetic, chemical fertilizers neglects the microbial life within the soil. In comparison, Love Your Soil® soil supplement feed and stimulate microbes to build a humus reserve which imparts nutrient-laden water and disease resistance. Microbial populations are responsible for recycling organic waste which makes the soil more porous allowing air, water, and grassroots to penetrate deeper.
Coverage Guide
For soils with a pH over 7.5, use the new lawns rate.

What is Love Your Soil®?
Love Your Soil® is a soil amendment product that is derived from gypsum to loosen compacted soil and improve soil aeration. It also stimulates soil microbial life and aids in improving root penetration and overall grass growth.
When the soil is compacted, it’s harder for nutrients and water to travel to your grass’s root system. In highly compacted soils, turfgrass roots may stop growing or growth can be dramatically reduced. This can negatively affect plant growth and in severe situations eventually cause your lawn to die altogether.
Love Your Soil® is formulated with humates, calcium, sulfur, iron, and molasses, to stimulate beneficial microbes that help break down organic matter. Making your soil richer in nutrients, Love Your Soil® ultimately helps water and air travel better to your lawn’s root system.
This nutrient-packed soil food can be used when seeding or sodding and is best applied to a dry lawn during the spring, summer, and fall months in temperatures of 65ºF or above.
How can I improve heavy clay soil?
Clay soil can generally prove to be beneficial for the lawn, as its composition helps your grass to retain water and nutrients, however, heavy, compacted clay soil can present problems for overall grass growth. In order to prevent clay soil from becoming compacted, you should focus on improving the composition and overall quality of the soil.
You can improve the quality of clay soil with these tips:
Aerate clay soil
- Core aeration can help to prevent compaction in clay soil by breaking up hard clay and allowing beneficial nutrients, water, and air to easily travel through to the lawn’s root system. The effects of core aeration are only temporary in relieving compacted clay soil, however, as the air holes that are created will eventually fill in after a few months.
Add soil amendments to heavy clay soil
- Adding beneficial soil amendments to clay soil, such as Love Your Soil®, can also help to break up hardened clay, loosen compaction and improve its quality. The humates in Love Your Soil® help to stimulate beneficial microbes in the soil that break down organic matter. This helps air, water, and nutrients travel to your lawn’s root system and ultimately improves the overall composition of the soil.
Add organic matter
- Adding about six to eight inches of organic matter, such as leaf compost or untreated grass clippings, can help to relieve compaction in heavy, clay soils. This will also help improve problems with drainage and the overall structure of the soil. When selecting organic material to add, remember to not use sand, as it can cause more compaction in clay soils.

How to Apply
Prepare
Rake
For best results, rake the lawn vigorously prior to application to remove debris and thatch.
Apply
Set
Use a spreader suitable for your specific lawn size. Set the spreader according to the recommended setting on the packaging or use our Spreader Settings Tool above. Make sure to update the setting with each product you apply.
Spread
Begin by spreading soil supplements along the perimeter of your lawn. Make straight passes back and forth across the length of the lawn in a mowing pattern until the entire area is covered. Overlap slightly between passes and close the hopper when turning. Walk at a steady pace for even distribution.
Sweep
To avoid staining, sweep any excess granules off of hard surfaces and back onto the lawn or garden.
Maintain
Water
Irrigate the treated area after application for 15 – 30 minutes for the best results.
Mow
Once watered, wait at least one day to mow the lawn to give the product time to activate.
Re-apply
For soils that are extremely compacted, repeat applications twice a year.
