Real Winter Survival Lawns
Product Overview
Jonathan Green Winter Survival Fall Lawn Food is the ideal fall lawn fertilizer to spread any time from early September through mid-November because air temperatures are cooler and the soil is still warm enough for grass roots to grow deep. Winter Survival provides the nutrients to help boost newly seeded lawns as well as help established lawns grow thicker and greener grass with deeper roots.

This product helps lawns recover from summer stress, feeds grass for up to three months, and can be applied to any type of lawn grass. If Winter Survival is spread early in the fall, a second application in the beginning of November will safeguard the lawn over the winter resulting in greener grass early next spring.

How Do I Calculate My Lawn Size? First measure the length and width of your lawn. Then multiply the length by the width and deduct the square footage of any non-lawn areas (landscape bed, patio, deck, pool, etc.) from the total. Now you know how much product you need to purchase!

Don’t Forget These Essentials

  • Apply in fall (late August to early November). Can be used instead of Veri-Green Starter Lawn Fertilizer for Seeding & Sodding if seeding in fall.

  • 10-0-20

  • Nitrogen (Urea Nitrogen), Soluble Potash, Iron. Derived from: Polymer Coated Urea, Urea, Muriate of Potash, Ferrous Sucrate.

  • Apply the same day as seeding or sodding in the fall. For damaged lawns, apply in early fall then again 6 weeks later, for a thicker, greener lawn.

  • 25% Slow release: feeds the lawn for 2 months.

  • Yes

  • Our straight fertilizers can be applied with any of our grass seeds and soil amendments.

We don’t recommend applying two of our weed controls or fertilizers together, as you risk burning your lawn. You can, however, apply two of these products together if one has fertilizer and the other one doesn’t. The rule of thumb is: if two products have different functions, it is usually possible to apply them together.

  • Apply Winter Survival Fall Lawn Fertilizer to a dry lawn a day or two after mowing

  • After applying Winter Survival Fall Lawn Fertilizer, water your lawn to move the fertilizer to the roots. Once the grass has dried, people and pets are safe to re-enter the lawn.

  • Our recommendations for storing your fertilizer:

Place it in a cool dry place, off of the ground, out of direct sunlight, and keep it away from moisture. Keep bags (especially that have already been opened) containing unused product in a locked storage area inaccessible to children and pets. Do not store near feed or foodstuffs.

To prevent cross-contamination, do not store near open containers of fertilizer, seed or other pesticides. Under these conditions, fertilizer will last at least two years.

    • Carefully read all instructions prior to application
    • Wash hands thoroughly with soap and water after handling and before eating or drinking
    • Do not apply near water, storm drains, or drainage ditches.
    • Do not apply if heavy rain is expected.
    • Apply this product only to your lawn or garden and sweep any product that lands on the driveway, sidewalk or street back onto your lawn or garden.
    • Be aware of local ordinance requirements concerning lawn fertilizer applications. “Black out” dates may limit or prohibit lawn fertilizer applications from late fall to early spring in certain areas.
  • Always read and follow the product label before use.

How to Apply

  • We recommend using a spreader to evenly distribute the product onto your lawn.
  • Check to make sure the spreader opening at the bottom of the hopper is closed.
  • Set the spreader according to the recommended setting on the packaging or use our Spreader Settings Tool above.
  • Push the lever forward only when ready to spread.
  • Apply fertilizer around the perimeter of the lawn to establish a turning area. Then run the spreader back and forth within the area outlined by your first perimeter application. Always allow an overlap to avoid gaps in coverage.

  • To avoid staining, sweep any excess fertilizer granules off of hard surfaces and back onto the lawn.
  • Irrigate the treated area after application for best results.
  • Once watered, wait a day to mow the lawn, allowing the product time to activate.
