How to Apply
Prepare
Select
Pick a sunny, well-drained site where wildflowers will thrive. When wildflowers are planted in low-lying, poorly drained, moist areas, weeds will outcompete the wildflowers.
Mow
Mow or cut down existing or unwanted vegetation as short as possible, and make sure to bag your clippings.
Rake
Use a metal rake to loosen the surface of the planting area and remove debris. Then smooth out any depressions to make the seedbed level.
Apply
Combine
Combine the seed with a carrier such as sand or a new seeding fertilizer, such as Veri-Green Starter Fertilizer for Seeding and Sodding.
Seed
Use a spreader to evenly apply the seed over the designated area. You can find the appropriate spreader settings by using the tool above. For best coverage, apply half the seed in one direction (east to west), and the other half in the perpendicular direction (north to south).
Rake seed
Press the seed into the soil by walking or using a lawn roller. Do not cover the seed deeper than ⅛ of an inch. Some of the seeds will be visible.
Maintain
Water
Irrigate the seeding with ½ to 1 inch of water weekly for the first 4 – 6 weeks until the wildflowers establish.
