Product Overview
Jonathan Green Wildflower and Meadow Grass Mix contains over 25 annual and perennial wildflowers, hard fescue grass seed, and birdsfoot trefoil creating a beautiful wildflower and meadow grass landscape. This is the ideal seed mixture to plant in areas that are difficult to mow, such as on slopes or the outer edges of larger properties.

The annual wildflowers produce flowers the first year and the perennial wildflowers will reseed themselves, providing even more color and beautiful blooms every year after. The flowers in this mixture like full sun best but some grasses, such as hard fescue and birdsfoot trefoil, will grow in partial shade. Wildflower and Meadow Grass Mix does not need to be fertilized. This seed germinates in 21 - 40 days.

Don’t Forget These Essentials

  • Wildflowers, fine fescues, & birdsfoot trefoil

  • Wildflower and Meadow Grass Mix contains over 25 annuals and perennials

  • The best time to plant wildflower seeds is between spring and summer (April through June), or late fall to early winter (mid-November through December). When spread before a snowfall, the seeds will lie in the ground dormant until germination occurs when the soil temperatures rise in the spring.

  • 6+ hours of sunlight per day

  • 21 – 40 days

  • These flowers bloom in late spring to early fall in stages. We recommend planting in early-to-mid spring in order to see a full year of wildflowers.

  • Irrigate the seeding area with ½ to 1 inch of water weekly for the first 4 – 6 weeks until the wildflowers establish.

  • This mix attracts pollinators including butterflies and hummingbirds

  • Our recommendations for storing your grass seed:

Place it in a cool dry place, off of the ground, out of direct sunlight, and keep it away from moisture. Under these conditions, grass seed will last at least two years.

  • Always read and follow the product label before use.

How to Apply

Pick a sunny, well-drained site where wildflowers will thrive. When wildflowers are planted in low-lying, poorly drained, moist areas, weeds will outcompete the wildflowers.

Mow or cut down existing or unwanted vegetation as short as possible, and make sure to bag your clippings.

Use a metal rake to loosen the surface of the planting area and remove debris. Then smooth out any depressions to make the seedbed level.

Combine the seed with a carrier such as sand or a new seeding fertilizer, such as Veri-Green Starter Fertilizer for Seeding and Sodding.

Use a spreader to evenly apply the seed over the designated area. You can find the appropriate spreader settings by using the tool above. For best coverage, apply half the seed in one direction (east to west), and the other half in the perpendicular direction (north to south).

Rake seed

Press the seed into the soil by walking or using a lawn roller. Do not cover the seed deeper than ⅛ of an inch. Some of the seeds will be visible.

Irrigate the seeding with ½ to 1 inch of water weekly for the first 4 – 6 weeks until the wildflowers establish.
