When & What to Feed Your Lawn
There are four times of the year that you should feed your lawn and four different products you will want to use.
Early Spring – In March or April, apply Veri-Green Crabgrass Preventer plus Lawn Fertilizer. It contains the newest available technology, Dimension® Crabgrass Control Herbicide, which will keep crabgrass from creeping into your lawn. It also contains the nutrients needed for a beautiful, green, thick lawn. To be effective, apply the product to a dry lawn before a rain, or water it in after application.
Late Spring – In May and June, we recommend the application of Veri-Green Weed & Feed Lawn Fertilizer. It will give your lawn everything it needs to grow green and strong and will also control dandelions, clover, and 250 other kinds of broadleaf weeds. Apply the product to moist grass, and avoid watering treated areas for 48 hours after application because water will wash off the weed-killing material.
Summer – In July and August, loosen up hard soil and adjust the pH level to make it ideal for grass growth. Mag-I-Cal® Plus for Lawns in Alkaline & Hard Soil and Mag-I-Cal® Plus for Lawns in Acidic & Hard Soil are designed to activate the microbial life in your soil to make the nutrients easier for grass roots to absorb. Apply to a dry lawn before a rain or water in after application.
Fall – In September and October, you will want to prepare your lawn to survive the winter. Winter Survival Fall Lawn Food is designed to feed your lawn through winter while fending off late winter/early spring turf diseases, such as pink or gray snow mold. It also helps to keep the lawn a deep-green color. For the best results, apply Winter Survival to a dry lawn before a rainfall or water it in after application.
Watering after Fertilization
If the Jonathan Green fertilizer you choose contains a broadleaf weed killer, such as Veri-Green Weed & Feed Lawn Fertilizer, it should be applied to damp grass but should not be watered in. (The weed killer must sit on the leaf in order to take effect.) If the product does not contain a broadleaf weed killer, you may water it in immediately after application.
