How can we help?

How to water a newly seeded lawn?

Answer:

Newly seeded lawns require devoted time and attention. The goal is to keep the top inch of soil moist, but not soaked while your grass germinates.

After spreading the seed, you should water daily, 2 – 3 times per day to ensure the seeds and sproutlings stay moist. It is imperative to prevent the seeds from drying out, as they may not germinate and grow. However, be sure not to overwater, as you may wash the seeds away before they have the chance to grow roots.

Once your new grass is about 4 inches tall and ready to be mowed, you can reduce your watering to 2 – 3 times per week, 15 – 20 minutes per zone. These deep and infrequent waterings will help your grass roots grow deep and strong.

As a general watering rule, you should always be mindful to water your lawn in the morning or early afternoon, as watering at night can cause moisture to settle on grass leaves and promote lawn fungus.
